Fear Is Our Tradition

Ignite have been one of my favourite hardcore bands since first hearing 'Call on My Brothers' back in 1996. Words can't do justice to the impact that record had on me. The melodic aggressive music, Zoli's voice (one of the best in hardcore), the lyrics... all came together to create a record that will be remembered until the day I die. Their 2nd album 'A Place Called Home', released on a major label, was pretty ho-hum. I don't even own it. I chalked them up as another band being drained by the major label vamps.

Now 10 years later they just released their 3rd full length 'Our Darkest Days' on Abacus Recordings, and the same feeling I got back in '96 has hit all over again. I can't believe how good this record is, there isn't a shitty song on it. Zoli's voice is the best it's ever been, and it's great to see him in top form as he really is the driving force behind this band. His political and socially aware lyrics are as poignant as ever, and stand far above the usual hardcore fare. These songs are insanely catchy and it doesn't take many listens before you're singing along. Even my 5 year old son loves Ignite and can sing along to most of these tracks. 'Our Darkest Days' is a must have record of 2006. Visit their myspace page to hear some tracks.

Vegas Rob was lucky enough to see them play the other night and he said they put on a helluva show. It's disappointing when vocalists, unaided by studio magic, can't pull it off live, but Rob said Zoli had it nailed. He took some pics of shirts & hoodies they were selling, all of which I think are available from their webstore. I can only hope that Ignite is kind enough to grace us with their presence up in the Great White North soon.
